Cursor
AI coding agent and editor from Anysphere, acquired by SpaceX in August 2026, offering agents, cloud agents and a choice of frontier models.
Cursor is an AI coding tool made by Anysphere, a San Francisco company founded in 2022. It describes itself as “your coding agent for building ambitious software.” It runs as a desktop app and a command-line tool, and works inside Slack and GitHub.
Its core features are agents that plan and build software from a prompt and handle tasks end to end; cloud agents that run autonomously and in parallel, in fleets that can work for hours or days, including on machines the customer manages; inline autocomplete and targeted edits; automations; a code review bot called Bugbot; and Mission Control for overseeing agent work. Users can choose models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and SpaceX’s AI division, or Cursor’s own Composer models, and a router can pick a model for each task. Cursor says it is used by more than half of the Fortune 500 and has dedicated enterprise and student offerings. Reports in 2026 put its annual recurring revenue above $2 billion.
In April 2026 SpaceX disclosed an option to acquire Anysphere for $60 billion, and in June 2026 it agreed to do so. The all-stock deal closed on 14 August 2026, when Cursor announced it was “now a part of SpaceX.” Cursor became a wholly owned subsidiary within SpaceX’s AI division, the same unit that absorbed xAI, and gained access to that division’s compute; the Cursor blog has since published the Grok 4.6 and 4.7 releases. OpenAI was reported to have withdrawn its models from Cursor after the acquisition. Cursor’s website continues to carry the Anysphere name.
