Mustafa Suleyman
EVP and CEO, Microsoft AI
Mustafa Suleyman is Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI, the division he has led since Microsoft created it in March 2024. He is responsible for Microsoft’s own frontier models, the MAI family, and for the MAI Superintelligence Team he formed in November 2025.
Suleyman co-founded DeepMind in London in 2010 with Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg and served as its chief product officer. After Google acquired DeepMind in 2014 he became head of applied AI, working to integrate the lab’s technology into Google products, and later moved to a vice president role at Google before leaving in January 2022. In March 2022 he co-founded Inflection AI, a generative AI company, with Reid Hoffman. Microsoft hired Suleyman in March 2024, naming him to lead its consumer AI business including Copilot, Bing and Edge.
In November 2025 Suleyman published “Towards Humanist Superintelligence,” announcing that “we have formed the MAI Superintelligence Team, led by me as part of Microsoft AI.” He defines the term as “incredibly advanced AI capabilities that always work for, in service of, people and humanity more generally,” and argues that the order of priorities matters: “proactively avoiding harm and then accelerating.” In March 2026 Microsoft consolidated Copilot under a separate executive so that Suleyman could focus on Super Intelligence and frontier-model work, reporting to Satya Nadella.
He is co-author, with Michael Bhaskar, of the 2023 book “The Coming Wave,” on the risks of advanced AI and synthetic biology. He has not claimed that Microsoft has built a Super Intelligence.
