Daniela Amodei

President and co-founder, Anthropic

Daniela Amodei is co-founder and President of Anthropic, the AI safety and research company she started in 2021 with her brother Dario Amodei and a group of former OpenAI colleagues. As President she leads the company’s operations alongside Dario, who serves as CEO, and has overseen teams focused on safety and model alignment.

Amodei’s path into AI was unusual for a frontier-lab executive. She studied English literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating in 2009, and has said she is neither a computer scientist nor a lawyer. Her early career was in international development and global health, followed by work on Capitol Hill and a political campaign. She joined Stripe in 2013 as an early employee and spent almost six years there while the company was still small.

She joined OpenAI in 2018, where she managed the team during the development of GPT-2 and later moved into safety and policy, rising to vice president of safety and policy. She left at the end of 2020 with the group that went on to found Anthropic.

Under her leadership on the operational side, Anthropic grew from a research-focused startup to a company with a reported $965 billion valuation in May 2026 and a large enterprise customer base. She was named with Dario to TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people in AI in 2023 and to the TIME 100 in 2026. She has described Anthropic’s aim as building AI that people can trust.
