ChatGPT

OpenAI's consumer and business AI assistant, launched in late 2022, now combining chat, document work, Codex coding, voice and image generation.

ChatGPT is OpenAI’s AI assistant and the product that brought large language models to a mass audience. A free preview launched in December 2022 and reportedly drew more than a million sign-ups within five days. It is built on OpenAI’s GPT model family, with the GPT-6 generation rolling out to paid tiers from September 2026.

OpenAI now presents ChatGPT as three connected modes. Chat covers questions, explanations, drafting, web search, image generation and comparisons. Work creates and edits documents, slide decks, spreadsheets, charts and PDFs, and can connect to apps such as Gmail and Slack to automate tasks. Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, is available inside ChatGPT so that the same account covers planning, writing, testing, reviewing and shipping code.

Beyond those modes, ChatGPT offers real-time voice conversation, image generation, Deep Research for long-form investigation, Study Mode, and integrations with third-party apps including Canva, Spotify and PowerPoint. Dedicated Health and Finance experiences provide wellness guidance and budgeting help, with Finance able to link financial accounts.

ChatGPT runs on the web, as macOS and Windows desktop apps, and on mobile. Plans span Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Higher Education and K-12 Teachers tiers, which differ in usage limits, model access and administrative controls. It is used by consumers, students, professionals and enterprises; business tiers add shared workspaces and admin features.

OpenAI does not describe ChatGPT as a Super Intelligence. Current plan details are on the ChatGPT pricing page.
