Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI) is an AI research lab founded in June 2024 by Ilya Sutskever, Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy. Sutskever, a co-founder and former chief scientist of OpenAI, announced the company shortly after leaving OpenAI. SSI describes itself as having “one goal and one product: a safe superintelligence,” and says it plans to advance capabilities and safety together, with safety staying ahead. It has offices in Palo Alto, California and Tel Aviv, Israel.

The company’s name is itself the clearest example of a lab adopting the term. SSI has released no products and publishes little about its research; its public updates page carries only a handful of posts. It has not claimed to have built a Super Intelligence.

SSI raised $1 billion in September 2024 from NFDG, a16z, Sequoia, DST Global and SV Angel, and a further round in early 2025 that reports put at a valuation of around $30 billion. In July 2025 Gross left the company for Meta and Sutskever became CEO, with Levy as President; the company said at the time that it had turned down acquisition interest. Reports named Meta as one suitor.

In July 2026 SSI announced a long-term strategic partnership with NVIDIA that includes an investment the companies described as “substantial” and access to NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform, which SSI said would scale its compute by roughly ten times. Sutskever said the company has “research that is worthy of scaling up.”
